Curriculum
The Priory curriculum
The foundation for high quality teaching and learning is the school curriculum. The curriculum is designed to ensure that teachers and other staff are working to attain the best possible outcomes for all students in their lives, especially around long-term outcomes such as employment, independent living and optimum health & wellbeing. At the heart of the Priory curriculum is capacity to transform a young person’s life for the better, through positive relationships and engaged learning, developing happy and active citizens. This ethos embodies the core framework of the school which guides our fundamental aim for every student. Our student population is diverse, ranging from those with moderate learning needs, sensory learners, Autism, behaviours that challenge, communication and physical needs.
At Priory School, we have overarching ambitions for key curriculum areas. These are tailored for each pathway. Each curriculum is well planned and sequenced, allowing flexibility to ensure every student makes progress.
Learner pathways curriculum
The school is divided into a Pathway model of grouping our students to ensure we meet all the needs of our learners, and offer an inclusive environment. We operate five pathways and these are largely based on learning style rather than cognitive ability. Students may switch pathway as their learning needs change throughout their years at Priory School.
